This print depicts Hagar and her son Ishmael contemplating the vast desert after being cast out by Abraham and Sarah. This story is found in the book of Genesis and other sacred texts.

When Hagar was pregnant with Ishmael, she fled into the wilderness where the angle of the Lord acknowledged her suffering, and promised her an innumerable posterity.  Hagar responded by saying “Thou God seest me”(Genesis 16:13).  In a world where she was surely overlooked and looked down upon, Hagar rejoiced that God saw her.  I imagine that when Hagar is later cast out and contemplating a vast and empty wilderness with little hope of survival for her and her son (the moment depicted in my piece), she must have desperately leaned on her knowledge that “Thou God seest me.” This print is one of a limited edition of 10 prints.
